I live in a small town in Ontario, Canada and I have been embroidering for many, many years. I have been teaching embroidery for about 15 years and thought it was about time that I started up a blog.
My favourite embroidery techniques are surface embroidery, stumpwork and thread painting, but to be honest, I'll stitch just about anything that doesn't require counting. I do occasionally work a piece that requires counting, but mainly under duress and it will probably have some pulled or drawn threads in it as well.
My one wish is to encourage hesitant embroiderers to try something a little outside their normal comfort zone - but to start at a level from which they can progress in stages and not become discouraged. My advice to novice embroiderers - Remember, even the most skilled embroiderer was a novice at the beginning. Skill takes time and perseverance.
